Why do I need supplemental oxygen?
Supplemental oxygen is given to people who have low oxygen levels in their body or may require increased oxygen intake. People with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, chronic bronchitis, lung disease, cystic fibrosis, or congestive heart failure may benefit from oxygen therapy at home.
Damaged lungs are not able to supply enough oxygen for your body, and your system must work harder to function. Low oxygen levels can affect all of your main organs and tissues and lead to heart problems, headaches, drowsiness and confusion.
